Poetry by Mazen Al Safadi

In me a river
burst in search for
your thirsty soul
I weep for days
and my heart tires
of waiting, my love
and my soul aches
for a glance
I curse the day and
I wait until
the night sets in
I confront my misery
and I hide and
I pour my agony
into the dark ink
My desire expands
and penetrates the buildings
seeking your being
From beneath the words
your shoulders
rise like mountains
and your face rests
suddenly between my palms
I kneel and
I kiss your body
and cities move in me
and flowers spring
from my being
My love
we found each other
hungry
and we found each other
tired
I came to you
empty
you lit a universe
in my vessels
I owe you wine and
I owe you love letters
I owe you roses
and I owe you poetry
I ask for forgiveness
and before I
end my day
with tired eyes
I shall ask the Creator
to bring you to me,
for you are, my love,
a foretaste of
Heaven.
